The spiritual care department is closely aligned with the Holistic Nursing program emphasizing the value and importance we give to the spiritual-holistic dimension in caring for our patients, families, and staff. The Roman Catholic Priest Chaplain functions as a member of the Spiritual Care team and provides religious, spiritual and emotional support primarily to the Catholic patients, families and staff at Baystate Medical Center, and upon request serves the non-Catholic population as well. The Priest Chaplain provides religious, spiritual and sacramental ministry to Catholic employees, visitors, and medical colleagues across the BMC campus. The Priest Chaplain will participate in staff support interventions such as debriefs, memorial and celebration services in the hospital chapel. Job Responsibilities: 1) The Priest Chaplain will participate in the 24/7 spiritual care coverage of the Spiritual Services department, and will respond to requests made by patients, family members or caregivers for spiritual, or sacramental needs during regular scheduled shifts. The Priest Chaplain will participate in the day-shift on-call rotation of the department. 2) Provides spiritual and emotional support through establishing compassionate care relationship, crisis intervention, the effective utilization of religious resources specific to Roman Catholic practices, and to be able to apply supportive spiritual care approaches to non-Catholic patients and families when required. prayer. 3) Participates in unit-based provision of spiritual care and collaboratively works with interprofessional team, and spiritual services colleagues to enhance and advance the integration of spiritual care in all patient care areas. 4) Will offer the administration of the Sacrament of the Sick to Catholic patients, prioritizing by acuity of illness, referral, as a routine intervention, and per special request. 5) Demonstrates respect and support for the diversity of faith traditions and individual spiritual beliefs of patients, families and staff, providing spiritual care to patients of other faith traditions when requested as needed. 5) Communicates professionally with all colleagues, and effectively utilizes the electronic health care record system to document spiritual care interventions. Demonstrates knowledge, and familiarity with professional standards in using spiritual assessments, and a variety of spiritual interventions. 6) Provides spiritual care leadership for institutional events as needed. 7) Participates in regular departmental meetings, and engages with department colleagues in a collaborative style, and collegial communication. Brings initiative, and team-spirit to the role. 8) Performs other related duties and activities as may be requested by the Department Manager. Adheres to all departmental and hospital safety standards in order to maintain a safe patient care and work environment. Attends all mandatory in-services. 9) Participates in mentoring program for clinical pastoral education students, and demonstrates willingness to coach and educate students on Catholic spiritual care needs. Required Work Experience: 1) At least 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education; Masters Degree Preferred Work Experience: 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education, and 2 years of professional chaplaincy experience in a health care setting.
