YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. Join ABB’s Power Protection Product Group in Napier as a Chapter Leader in Electrical Systems, where you’ll blend technical depth with people leadership to drive innovation in power conditioning technologies. In this dual role, you’ll lead a chapter of engineers while actively contributing to an Agile Team focused on developing advanced solutions across our product range including UPS systems, battery energy storage, and static frequency converters spanning 300kW to 3600kW. Your focus will be on advancing core power conditioning technologies to deliver higher performance, cost efficiency, and operational excellence through innovation, standardization, and smart resource use.
You’ll represent local R&D operations, align with global strategies, and foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that supports both technical excellence and team development. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of power protection while growing your impact within a global R&D network.

  • Delivering the Chapter mission: Sharing best practices and know-how and developing standards and guidelines on how to develop and optimize Electrical and Mechanical Systems in the Power Protection portfolio.
  • Developing IP strategy within the area of work.
  • Acting as a coach with deep expertise and ensuring that chapter members have appropriate competencies and skills for Power Conditioning & MV Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) product lines.
  • Conducting performance review of chapter members collecting input from relevant stakeholders. Ensuring team receives regular updates on new developments both on technical and R&D processes-related topics.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • A strong background in designing electromechanical solutions for electrical equipment, with a passion for solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Over 5 years of experience in R&D across electrical and mechanical systems, along with at least 3 years of experience guiding or leading development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies is a plus, especially if you enjoy working in collaborative, cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated strengths in analytical thinking, technical consulting, and clear communication paired with a leadership style that empowers and supports others.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Comfortable communicating in English in a professional and technical context
