Description Charge Nurse (RN) – Full Time, Nights Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (7 PM–7 AM) with rotating weekends Location: Ascension Saint Thomas Rehabilitation Hospital Ascension Saint Thomas Rehabilitation Hospital is a state-of-the-art, 40-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation hospital dedicated to helping patients recover from serious injuries, trauma, or complex medical conditions. Our interdisciplinary team includes a medical director, rehabilitation-certified nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and more. We focus on understanding each patient’s needs and creating a personalized plan that supports strength, function, and recovery. Position Summary The Charge Nurse (RN) serves as a clinical leader on the night shift, providing support to nursing staff, collaborating with providers, and ensuring safe, high-quality patient care. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, this role supports clinical operations, coaches and mentors nursing staff, and helps drive quality outcomes, patient safety, and professional practice standards. This position may also function as the primary clinical support when nursing leadership is unavailable. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program; BSN preferred Current RN licensure in the state Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Mandatory child and adult abuse certification Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) preferred Minimum of two years of experience in an acute or rehabilitative setting with demonstrated leadership ability Strong written and verbal communication skills Basic computer proficiency Essential Responsibilities Provides leadership, clinical direction, and real-time support to nursing staff Performs routine audits to ensure accurate documentation in Cerner and UDS Assists with annual evaluations by offering feedback on clinical performance Identifies educational needs among staff and supports clinical training Ensures accurate QI documentation and participates in CQPI initiatives Serves as a clinical resource for medically complex patients Assists with family/patient education and contributes to reducing readmissions Conducts UDS documentation training for new licensed nursing personnel Leads remediation sessions for documentation improvement Supports patient safety and adherence to all compliance standards Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences Assists with staffing assignments based on acuity and staff competency May assume a partial or full patient assignment as needed Maintains confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to all organizational policies Required Skills Strong clinical assessment and prioritization skills Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations Proficiency with clinical equipment and rehabilitation practices Professional and effective communication skills Equal Employment Opportunity Ascension Saint Thomas Rehabilitation Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
