Job Summary The Charge RN - Women’s Services is a Registered Nurse responsible for supervising and coordinating patient care delivery within the Women’s Services and Pediatrics department. This role provides direct patient care, assists in staffing and administrative oversight during shifts, and serves as a resource and leader to other nursing staff. The charge RN ensures that nursing care is delivered in accordance with hospital policy, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements. Essential Functions Oversees nursing operations during assigned shifts in Women’s Services & Pediatrics Provides direct patient care using the nursing process according to state practice laws and hospital policies Delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff based on competency and scope of practice Supports and promotes safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered care Assists in coordinating staffing and break coverage Collaborates with supervisors and physicians to resolve care delivery issues Mentors and supports RN, LPN, and support staff Participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care Completes required documentation and ensures EMR accuracy Complies with quality and safety guidelines, including infection control standards Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Clinical expertise in maternal-child or pediatric nursing Leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills Ability to mentor and guide clinical staff during assigned shifts Effective communication and organizational skills Familiarity with electronic documentation and hospital protocols Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients throughout the shift Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds Requires manual dexterity and ability to respond to emergencies Women’s Services and Pediatrics inpatient care environment Exposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required May encounter physically and emotionally demanding situations Education Graduate of an accredited nursing program, required Licenses/Certifications Current Registered Nurse license in applicable state or compact license, required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within time frame required by facility policy Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within time frame required by facility policy Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within time frame required by facility policy NIH Stroke Certification annually, within time frame required by facility policy Experience Previous clinical nursing experience in Women’s Services or Pediatrics preferred
