  • Valid CSCS Card
  • SSSTS/SMSTS – desirable

  • EUSR – desirable
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
  • Display a positive attitude, strong work ethic and be self-motivated and able to work independently or within a team
  • Full UK driving licence

ROLE: CHARGEHAND – CIVILS & MULTI-UTILITIES

Location: Highlands & Islands
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Nicol of Skene, a well-established civil engineering, multi-utility and directional drilling construction company based in Inverness and Aberdeen is seeking experienced and highly motivated Chargehands. The successful candidate will oversee and lead a small team of operatives on civil engineering and multi-utility projects, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. They will act as the link between site operatives and site management, supporting the successful delivery of projects on time and within budget and in line with company standards and client expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and coordinate site activities for a small team of operatives.
  • Know, understand and follow the Bill of Quantities and ensure works are completed in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and health & safety requirements.
  • Know, understand and follow the contract programme and report on progress to Line Manager
  • Assist in the preparation and issue of Job Instructions and ensure Daily Point of Work Risk Assessment & Briefing Records are completed correctly
  • Produce and deliver key job information to Line Manager
  • Maintain accurate records of daily works, labour, and plant usage
  • Complete in full and return all required paperwork timeously and correctly
  • Organise daily work schedules and allocate tasks to team members
  • Liaise with the Site Supervisor/Manager to report progress, issues, and resource requirements
  • Good housekeeping on site, in company yard and any vehicle provided
  • Ensure plant, tools, and equipment are used safely and maintained in good condition
  • Monitor quality of workmanship and adherence to company and client standards
  • Assist the Commercial Team/Site Manager during site visits with measurements as and when required
  • Promote and enforce a positive health, safety, and environmental culture on site
  • Assist with training and mentoring less experienced operatives
