Description Purpose of the Position: Manage the equipment and hardware needs for a high-volume production glass hot shop.? Source equipment and materials, or, design, fabricate and provide equipment or hardware needed.? Oversight and management of general maintenance and mechanical issues in the hot shop.? Primary Duties: Furnaces Start charging furnaces at beginning of shift, increasing furnace temperature Fill glass tanks with pre-heated cullet from cullet annealers. This is typically between 500 and 1800 pounds of glass in total. Collect cullet (typically 12 bags per load) from storage area Refill each 25lb chute and place in cullet annealer Be sure charge is on time and run program on furnaces Annealers Unload glassybaby from annealer and set annealer programs Check elements/fuses in both annealers to ensure they are working properly Run program on annealers Unload babies into tubs and set annealer program When unloading an event, tape each piece and write the person’s name on it Shop Maintenance Shop maintenance including sweep, hose, and squeegee shop Re-organize and replace all furniture Straighten blow pipes as time permits Empty hot shop garbage cans Cork any necessary molds (2-4 molds, typically) Unload any unused color from color box Fully load color box and indicate on color sheet which color is which Make sure gas lines are turned off and bled Retrieve tubs from shed Sweep, hose, and squeegee shop (including behind the hood) Turn off lights and make sure all doors are locked Sunday’s Extra Duties Arrive at scheduled time and turn up furnaces to begin charging Completely empty and refill glass tank designated for that week Cork as many molds as possible Empty the pipe trough Help with any odd jobs where tech might need assistance Requirements Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Ability to multitask, managing many different projects with varying degrees of urgency and frequent changes. High standards and attention to detail Ability to think quickly and critically, with excellent problem-solving skills. Self-starter and proactive; ability to work independently without supervision Education, Experience, Certifications, Licenses HS Diploma or equivalent Mechanical training a plus Previous hot shop work Physical Demands Ability to work nights and weekends Ability to lift 55lbs frequently Frequent standing, walking, bending, stopping, crouching and climbing Frequent use of hands to grasp and handle Courteous with clear verbal and written communication Ability to work without supervision Ability to work in work environment where noise level is usually moderate Benefits Paid WA Sick Leave 401K with a Match glassybaby Perks
