Overview
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Chartered Building Surveyor to work within our Estates department, reporting directly to our Head of Estates. The role offers exposure to a variety exciting and diverse projects across a portfolio of c1,300 properties throughout the UK.
The successful candidate should be technically excellent and have a good experience of building surveying expertise including due diligence surveys, project management/contract administration and condition surveys. Additionally, the candidate should be able to produce and defend dilapidations claims/repair notices, and is to assist in managing a planned maintenance program across the Betfred estate, working alongside legal and valuation experts when necessary. The fast-paced role places a strong focus on operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and delivering the best outcome for Betfred.
The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Building Surveyor with 5+ years post qualification with extensive experience of acquisition surveyors, dilapidations claims and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reports and recommendations directly to the Head of Property to allow for strategic direction and oversight across the portfolio of commercial and residential properties
  • Assist in setting up and overseeing a planned maintenance program.
  • Negotiate repair and dilapidation settlements ensuring the best possible outcome.
  • Project manage various projects whilst maintaining excellent relationships with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Foster strong relationships with tenants/landlords, contractors, and service providers to deliver outstanding services and resolve any issues or concerns promptly.
  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of the portfolio, ensuring high standards of health, safety, and sustainability.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of regulatory changes in the property industry and ensure those changes are adhered to.
  • Agree Party Wall awards where necessary
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards, conducting regular inspections and audits.
  • Implement preventive maintenance programmes to ensure the operational efficiency of buildings, equipment, and systems.
  • Promote sustainability initiatives within the facilities, including waste reduction, energy conservation, and environmentally friendly practices.

Prepare pre-acquisition surveys and condition reports.

Skills & Experience

  • MRICS with 5+ years post qualification experience with the ability to ‘make things happen’.
  • In-depth knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Law, Building Regulations, Planning, property regulations, health and safety standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to work alone and within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple instructions, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience of budgeting and cost analysis.
  • Ability to implement active and reactive maintenance programs across a large, diverse estate.
  • A diplomatic and professional approach, able to gather and share information in an inclusive manner while dealing effectively with challenging situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build key relationships within and with property professionals from outside the business.
