PERSON SPECIFICATION:QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Fire Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Progressing toward or already holding Incorporated or Chartered status (IEng or CEng) with IFE or equivalent.
  • Additional training in fire strategy development, building regulations, or Gateway submissions (desirable).

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3–5 years of experience in a fire engineering or fire safety consultancy role.
  • Demonstrable experience in producing fire strategy reports and fire statements.
  • Knowledge of fire safety legislation including ADB, BS 9991/9999, PAS 9980, and Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Experience working on a range of building types including residential, commercial, and mixed-use.
  • Familiarity with Gateway 2 submissions and regulatory documentation requirements.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong technical understanding of fire safety design principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and client engagement.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Confident working independently or as part of a design team.
  • Organised, with good time management and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, Revit, FDS, or other fire modelling tools is advantageous.
Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

To deliver high-quality Fire Strategies and Fire Statements for a range of building projects across all RIBA stages, including support with Gateway 2 compliance under the Building Safety Act. This role also includes producing retrospective fire strategies for existing or altered buildings, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting fire safety throughout a building’s lifecycle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop clear, code-compliant Fire Strategies for new builds, refurbishments, and mixed-use developments.
  • Produce Fire Statements to support planning applications in accordance with local planning authority and London Plan requirements.
  • Provide expert fire safety input across all RIBA Stages (1–6), from concept to construction and handover.
  • Deliver retrospective Fire Strategies for existing buildings, including conversions, material alterations, and remediation projects.
  • Support clients and project teams with Gateway 2 submissions, including development of fire safety information and coordination with Principal Designers and Dutyholders.
  • Liaise with design teams, clients, Building Control, and Fire Authorities to integrate fire safety into design and delivery.
  • Interpret architectural and MEP drawings to ensure fire safety compliance and highlight areas requiring design development.
  • Assist with fire safety engineering approaches including compartmentation, means of escape, evacuation modelling, and performance-based solutions.
  • Review fire protection systems, passive fire measures, and interface coordination on live projects.
  • Contribute to peer reviews, QA processes, and technical documentation management.
