POSITION OVERVIEW

The Checkpoint Control Captain is responsible for overseeing the operation of designated checkpoints along the adventure race course. This role ensures that checkpoints are properly monitored, set up, and functioning efficiently to support Kids AR participants. The Checkpoint Control Captain is crucial in maintaining race integrity, safety, and participant experience.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
  • Experience in adventure racing, endurance sports, or event logistics preferred.
  • Basic first aid and CPR certification (if available).
  • Ability to travel to remote checkpoint locations, often in rugged terrain.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to relay information.
  • Must be able to work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with race officials to determine checkpoint locations and set up logistics.
  • Manage and oversee check-in/check-out to ensure accurate tracking of all race participants.
  • Ensure that all checkpoint supplies, including tracking and communication devices, are set up and functional.
  • Record participant check-ins and relay real-time data to race headquarters.
  • Monitor participant safety and provide assistance/direction as needed
  • Communicate with race organizers regarding course deviations, injuries, or unforeseen circumstances and provide emergency support and communication if needed.
  • Ensure checkpoints are cleaned up and restored to their original condition post-race.
  • Provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere for racers and volunteers.
