Downer acts as the facility manager at The Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH). The RAH is the largest, busiest and most technologically advanced hospital in Australia with 800 single in-patient rooms, including 100 same-day beds and 80,000 same-day and overnight patient admissions per year.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Downer is seeking a motivated and skilled Chef to join our Patient Food Services team at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on a full-time basis! As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for producing high-quality patient food menu items that align with nutritional standards, ensuring patient satisfaction, and adhering to food safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and produce food items as directed by the Executive Chef, ensuring adherence to menu and quality standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, food storage areas, and personal workspace; ensure effective waste management.
  • Ensure all food safety protocols are followed, including compliance with HACCP, FSANZ standards, and SA Food Act.
  • Monitor food storage to ensure correct rotation (FIFO), prevent cross-contamination, and maintain correct temperatures for perishable items.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Food Services Manager and Executive Chef to ensure smooth operation of kitchen services and manage stock control.

About you:

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (essential); Food Safety and/or HACCP certifications (desirable).
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment, with an understanding of patient dietary needs and nutritional standards.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, including HACCP protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality.
