Role Description

As a Chef at Mai Gai Restaurant, you will be responsible for:

  • Design and plan innovative, seasonal menus that celebrate authentic Thai cuisine while appealing to the Brisbane market.
  • Accurately estimate food and labour costs to maintain profitability while using high-quality ingredients.
  • Source, order, and manage food supplies, building strong relationships with local suppliers and specialty importers.
  • Meticulously monitor the quality of all dishes at every stage, from preparation to final presentation, ensuring they meet our high standards of authenticity and visual appeal.
  • Collaborate closely with the Restaurant Manager and front-of-house team to discuss menu updates, address preparation issues, and ensure seamless service.
  • Act as a leader in the kitchen, demonstrating proper cooking techniques and advising team members on traditional Thai procedures.
  • Participate in the selection and training of new kitchen staff, fostering a positive, efficient, and skilled team environment.
  • Oversee kitchen procedures for freezing and preserving foods to minimise waste and maximise flavour.

Candidate Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have:
· Formal qualifications in Commercial Cookery (e.g., Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery).
· Relevant work experience in a professional kitchen environment.
· Strong knowledge of food preparation, hygiene standards, and cost management.
· Excellent communication and leadership skills to collaborate with team members.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Pay: $75,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
