We are currently seeking an experienced chef for a fixed term period to relieve staff on sick leave. Reporting to a regional operations manager, you will be involved in the cooking and service of all meals, the day-to-day running of the kitchen at Shalom Resthome, Whangarei, and making our client and their resident’s smile! This is a sole charge role, preparing meals for around 30 residents, but you will be responsible for one team member on the afternoon /evening shift. To succeed you will need excellent communication skills and pride yourself on producing a consistent and delicious meal, time and time again.

To be successful in this position you will need to be able to:

• Prepare, cook, and serve wholesome food (including soft meals)
• Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
• Adapt menus to cater for varied dietary requirements
• Manage food and labour costs in line with budgets and order food supplies
• Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
• Advise kitchen staff on cooking procedures and techniques
• Demonstrate understanding of, and ability to implement New Zealand Food Control & safety regulations
• Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard-free environment.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have excellent culinary and baking skills, experience in senior living is preferable
• Be friendly and engaging, with a desire to be a productive and positive member of the team
• Be passionate about good food, and great service
• Have good time management skills, excellent communication, and a flexible/can-do, committed attitude
