Afghan Charcoal Kebab House, located at 28 Maurice Road, Murray Bridge, South Australia, is renowned for its authentic Indian, Pakistani, and Afghani cuisine. Our menu—featuring dishes such as lamb kebabs, Palak Paneer Masala, Chicken and Lamb Biryani, Afghan bread, and Chicken Korma—celebrates the rich flavours and spices of traditional cooking. We offer both dine-in and takeaway services and are now seeking a talented Chef with expertise in these cuisines to join our team.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Specialised Cuisine Experience: At least 2 years’ experience as a chef specialising in Indian, Pakistani, and/or Afghani cuisine, with strong knowledge of traditional South Asian flavours and culinary techniques, including curries, kebabs, and tandoor cooking.
  • Qualifications: Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery OR Certificate III with an additional 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Food Safety and Quality: Strong knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in kitchen management.
  • High-Performance Teamwork: Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen setting with a commitment to excellence.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Please note that this position may require working a 7-day rotating roster, including weekends, as per our busy schedule.
  • You must be living in the area or willing to commute or relocate to Murray Bridge.

Responsibilities

This full-time Chef position is a unique opportunity to manage and elevate our kitchen operations with a focus on authentic South Asian cuisine. Key responsibilities include:

  • Menu Planning and Operations: Plan menus that highlight our traditional dishes, estimate food and labour costs, and manage food orders.
  • Cuisine Expertise: Prepare and cook a variety of Indian, Pakistani, and Afghani dishes, following recipes to ensure quality and consistency. Expertise with tandoor cooking, marinating techniques, and the preparation of classic curries and kebabs is essential.
  • Food Preparation and Quality Control: Prepare, season, and cook all dishes to recipe specifications, ensuring high standards in quality, presentation, and authenticity.
  • Team Leadership and Training: Demonstrate cooking techniques, advise on procedures, and train junior team members and apprentices.
  • Compliance and Safety: Implement workplace health, safety, and hygiene regulations, maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment.
