Description
  • Do you want to contribute to food safety?
  • Do you want to work with advanced chemical techniques?
  • Would you like to combine routine analyses with research-specific analyses in your work?
  • Do you want the flexibility to organize your own workweek?
  • Would you enjoy working in a diverse and friendly team where many activities are organized?
    Then the position of chemical analyst might be something for you!
    At Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR), we conduct research on food safety. We focus on both human food and animal feed. As a chemical analyst, you will be involved in residue research.
    This residue research focuses on detecting pharmacologically active substances, veterinary drugs, and growth-promoting agents in food and feed. Within these research areas, we carry out monitoring and forensic investigations, and we develop new analytical methods to monitor the use of these substances and detect illegal use. We also develop methods to identify unknown residues and advise (inter)national governments on how to prevent and analyze residues in the food chain.
Responsibilities

As a chemical analyst in the veterinary drugs team, you will carry out analyses using standardized protocols. You will also contribute to the optimization and validation of analytical methods. The emphasis is on instrumental analyses using state-of-the-art measurement systems in the field of LC-(HR)MS/MS and GC-(HR)MS/MS. The results of analyses and research are reported to the project leader.
You will work in a team responsible for the efficient execution and reporting of analyses. In doing so, you and your team contribute to food safety in the food chain and a healthy living environment.

Your tasks and responsibilities as a chemical analyst include:

  • Performing LC- and GC-(HR)MS/MS analyses across various projects
  • Data analysis and reporting to the project leader
  • Method improvements and validations
  • Drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Naturally, you won’t be doing this alone, but together with colleagues from the veterinary drugs and growth promoters teams, where three teams work closely together. Because you will be involved in various teams, the range of work is very diverse. Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
  • there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed year-end bonus of 8,3%;
  • excellent pension scheme.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €2823,- and €4190,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 7-8). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours a week can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a two-year contract that can be extended on good performance. Of course, we are happy to have a conversation with you if you have any questions about this.
Wageningen University & Research offers plenty of opportunities for growth and development, with a strong internal recruitment policy and excellent training programmes.
