The Chemical Management & IH Lead provides strategic and technical leadership for the organisation’s Chemical Management and IH program. The role focuses on implementing standard work that reduces risk, ensures compliance, and embeds a culture where health and safety is part of everyday operations. By aligning strategy with execution, the Chemical Management and IH Lead will help drive both cultural ownership and operational excellence. This is a key enabling role requiring domain technical expertise in Chemical Management and Industrial Hygiene. The successful candidate will combine strategic vision with practical execution, using data to inform decisions, shaping programs that reduce risk, and translating standards into measurable business results. Job Description Your Key Responsibilities: Your responsibilities include but not are limited to: • Act as the technical lead for Chemical Management and Industrial Hygiene, providing deep expertise in regulatory and organisational HSE requirements. • Provide oversight and guidance on Dangerous Goods (DG) classification and transportation regulations, ensuring compliance with international standards and chemical management frameworks (e.g., REACH). • Develop, own, and govern a comprehensive program that integrates chemical risk assessments and industrial hygiene principles into daily operations. • Ability to conduct exposure assessments, review health data and interpret results, allowing identification of chemical, biological, and physical hazards, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal program requirements. • Collaborate on program design with cross-functional teams developing and delivering measurable outcomes. • Drive change in a systemic way leveraging e.g. Change management certification or experience (e.g., Prosci, Kotter). • Drive accountability for execution of HSE programs, compliance, and continuous improvement. Leveraging expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis (5 Whys, RCA). • Able to influence decision-making with data-driven insights. • Familiarity with digital HSE platforms (e.g., Enablon, Intelex, SAP EHS). • Build organisational capability by coaching and mentoring site HSE professionals, fostering a culture of ownership and engagement. • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on delivery and impact. • Champion the consistent application of the Sandoz Business System (or equivalent), integrating Lean practices into H&S programs. What you bring to the role: Qualifications/Requirements • Degree in Chemical Engineering or Occupational Health & Safety related field with a strong emphasis on chemical safety and process management. • Certified HSE professional (e.g., NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, or equivalent) and/or certified Industrial Hygienist. • 6+ years of senior HSE leadership experience, with demonstrated expertise in occupational exposure assessment, environmental impact considerations, and comprehensive chemical management - including risk assessment methodologies and oversight of the chemical lifecycle from production through transport and storage. • Skilled in data-driven decision-making and performance management. • Demonstrated competency in Integrated Work Systems and/or Lean practices. • Fluent English with excellent written and verbal communications skills.
