YOUR PERSONAL SPHERE OF INFLUENCE:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated chemical-technical assistant (m/f/d) as a team member of the Microbial Biochemistry research group of Thomas Böttcher at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Vienna. The position is initially limited to 1 year, a permanent employment is possible.
In our research group, we develop chemical strategies for the tailored control of bacterial behavior with the aim of controlling the growth and pathogenic properties of certain microorganisms and their interactions in the human microbiome. We also investigate the chemical interactions between commensal and pathogenic bacteria as well as the chemistry of microbe-human interactions and try to exploit the potential of the resulting natural products by means of synthetic chemistry. We focus mainly on new anti-infective substances that, for example, inhibit the production of toxins of pathogenic bacteria or, as highly selective antibiotics, only inhibit the growth of selected bacterial species. Our vision is to develop customized chemical tools for precise interventions in the human microbiome and thus create the basis for chemical microbiome engineering for the future.
Our international team is characterized by open, respectful cooperation, excellent research and great diversity.
As a technical assistant, you will be involved in the diverse tasks of our research group. These include the following activities, which are carried out independently or in consultation with the scientific staff:
Independent management and maintenance of analytical equipment such as HPLC and mass spectrometer
