Description

The Chemical Engineer is responsible for managing the acceptance of waste inquiries, conducting laboratory analysis, overseeing the storage of waste materials, and performing waste mixing activities. This role requires a strong understanding of chemical properties, safe handling of hazardous materials, and compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) standards. The Chemical Engineer works closely with the operations team to ensure that waste processing is conducted safely and efficiently.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in chemical analysis, hazardous waste management, or a similar role within the environmental services or industrial sector.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in laboratory analysis techniques and familiarity with waste treatment processes.
  • Technical: Knowledge of hazardous material handling, waste classification, regulatory compliance (HSEQ), and laboratory equipment operation.
  • Attributes: Attention to detail, safety-conscious mindset, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· 1. Waste Inquiry and Acceptance:

  • Evaluate waste inquiries from clients, assessing the chemical composition, hazard level, and suitability for treatment within the facility’s capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to provide technical advice on waste acceptance criteria, pricing, and service feasibility.
  • Review waste documentation, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), to verify compliance with regulatory and facility-specific acceptance requirements.
  • Approve or reject waste for processing based on a thorough analysis of chemical properties, potential risks, and compatibility with existing treatment processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Waste Acceptance: Ensure accurate evaluation and acceptance of waste materials based on chemical properties and regulatory compliance.
  • Lab Analysis: Conduct thorough and accurate laboratory analyses to support safe waste processing and treatment.
  • Storage and Mixing: Oversee the safe storage and mixing of waste materials, minimizing risks of spills, contamination, and chemical reactions.
  • HSEQ Compliance: Maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance throughout all activities.
