Description

The Levy Group of Companies is seeking a Chemist to work at our lab in Portage, IN . The Chemist conducts chemical and physical laboratory tests of solid materials, liquids, and gases, and analyzes test data for a variety of purposes, such as research, product development, quality control, and establishing standards, involving experimental, theoretical, and/or practical application of chemistry and related sciences.

SKILLS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in chemical technology or applied sciences (physics, mathematics, engineering, natural sciences) or equivalent
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time and lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stockpiles
  • Ability and willingness to work with hazardous chemicals (i.e. strong acids and bases)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and LIMS Systems
  • Knowledge of XRF and ICP operation
  • Exposure to the glass industry a plus
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record

Responsibilities

The Chemist will:

  • Prepare samples of iron and steel slags, agricultural products, cements, and fertilizers for analysis, ensuring they are correctly labeled and documented
  • Conduct chemical and physical tests on samples to determine their properties, such as strength, stability, and chemical content
  • Set up and calibrate laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure accurate test results
  • Enter test data into computer systems and maintain detailed records of all analyses
  • Analyze and interpret test data, plotting results on control charts for quality monitoring
  • Generate routine reports and communicate findings to the Supervisor for further action
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring all instruments are in good working orderPerform other projects as assigned
