As the Chemist, Fellow at Centrus Energy, you’ll be the driving force behind further expanding a world-class lab that keeps our enrichment operations safe, compliant, and running with clockwork accuracy. You’ll lead a team of talented scientists and technicians, develop mature mass spectrometry and Non-Destructive Assay (NDA) programs, provide technical support to the nuclear material control and accountability program, provide design and system support to the engineering organization and develop laboratory operations that support the nation’s most advanced nuclear technology. What You Will Do: In this role, you’ll be key part of a high-performing laboratory team responsible for the safe, compliant, and highly precise operation of mass spectrometers, NDA systems, and other analytical capabilities that support NRC-regulated nuclear operations. You’ll manage the development of lab programs and processes from initiation to steady state operation; develop calibration, maintenance, and UF₆ isotopic standards programs; coordinate with operations, engineering, auditors, and regulators; and ensure all work aligns with nuclear safety, QA, configuration management, and security requirements. You’ll maintain strong team focus, troubleshoot technical and operational challenges, and drive continuous improvement across laboratory systems—all while fostering a positive, collaborative environment. We’d Love to Hear from People With: A BA/BS in Chemistry or a related scientific or engineering field, or equivalent experience 4+ years of industrial, chemical, nuclear, or laboratory plant operations experience Strong knowledge of scientific principles, laboratory processes, and regulatory expectations Familiarity with safe handling of classified materials and regulated nuclear processes Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” Clearance A Successful Candidate Brings: Extensive experience with Non-Destructive Assay (NDA) systems and/or Mass Spectrometry Experience managing laboratory facilities or other similar operations An advanced degree in Chemistry or a related scientific or engineering field, or equivalent experience A solid understanding of federal and state regulations relevant to nuclear, chemical, or laboratory environments Active “Q” or Top Secret Clearance In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
