A global leader in business and technology services. Job Title: Chemistry Core 3 Location: Milwaukee, WI 53209 Duration: 12 Months Employment Type: Contingent (40 hrs/week) Pay: 17.55 - 23.77/hr on W2 Position Summary The Scientist – Process Chemistry will be a key contributor within the innovation and R&D team, focusing on the development, optimization, and scale-up of chemical processes. This role supports the design and synthesis of organic and organometallic compounds, process improvements, and the transfer of sustainable production methods to manufacturing. The position requires hands-on laboratory expertise, strong process development knowledge, and collaboration across departments including production, safety, quality, marketing, and sales. Key Responsibilities 1. Process Chemistry & Technical Development Design, synthesize, and optimize organic and organometallic compounds. Develop scalable and sustainable production processes. Set up and execute small-scale screening reactions. Perform distillation of organic compounds and design distillation processes. Calculate theoretical plates and select appropriate column packing materials (preferred). Apply structure–property relationships and process chemistry principles. Utilize Design of Experiments (DoE) methodology for process optimization. Apply statistical process control (SPC) principles. 2. Innovation & Project Leadership Engage with cross-functional innovation teams to formulate new product concepts. Lead or contribute to defined project charters. Validate technical prototypes and process solutions. Transfer developed processes to production teams. Provide post-launch technical support. 3. Laboratory & Technical Expertise Maintain expertise in: Organic and organometallic chemistry Air-sensitive chemistry techniques Schlenk-line and glove box operations Stay current with latest advancements in process chemistry. Document experimental data and maintain accurate technical records. Follow strict safety protocols and good housekeeping practices. 4. Collaboration & Mentorship Serve as technical liaison between R&D and production. Provide training and technical guidance to manufacturing teams. Mentor junior R&D members. Collaborate with safety, quality, marketing, and sales teams to support product introductions. Required Qualifications Option 1: Advanced Degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Experience in distillation of organic compounds and process design OR Option 2: B.S. in Chemistry or Engineering 3+ years industrial experience in distillation Preferred Qualifications Experience calculating theoretical plates and selecting column packing Strong hands-on experience with Schlenk-line and glove box techniques Chemical manufacturing/process development background Experience with DoE methodology Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) Excellent technical writing and presentation skills Work Environment & Physical Requirements Exposure to chemicals requiring PPE Respirator usage required Heavy lifting (>20 lbs) No exposure to blood/biological hazards No forklift or laser operation required Impact & Accountability Works with limited supervision Accountable for quality and accuracy of own work Identifies non-obvious technical solutions Serves as informal mentor/resource within team About Trident: Trident Consulting is an award-winning IT/engineering staffing company founded in 2005 and headquartered in San Ramon, CA.
