POSITION OVERVIEW:

Group Leaders at McKinney Specialty Labs lead a team who meet the expectations of our clients by efficiently generating defensible data on time. The GCMS Group Leader will act as liaison between the GCMS team and the client program managers, operations leadership, and clients. The GCMS Group Leader will support direct reports through problem solving and subject matter expertise. Group Leaders report to a Senior Manager or Sr Director of Operations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or equivalent experience
  • Well versed in majority of the GCMS methods
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the underlying physical or chemical principles that underpin the assays being performed
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, communicate, and facilitate priorities to staff in an effective manner
  • Demonstrated experience handling non-routine samples and managing an effective workflow in a department (this includes managing hours, machine time and logistics for numerous assays)
  • Demonstrated experience with scheduling and coordination of schedules and deadlines across multiple groups and disciplines
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain composure during stressful times
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to break down barriers to organizational communication
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Personnel supervision and management, time management, and operational efficiency using the framework of the McKinney Specialty Labs’ Values
  • Conflict resolution, personnel skills development and team building
  • Accurate and timely communication with internal clients
  • Project scheduling
  • Preparation of data summaries for inclusion in client reports
  • Sample and Standard Preparation, as needed
  • Occasional split shift and/or weekend duties
  • Instrument calibration and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Write and update related SOPs
  • Maintain adequate consumables and parts for analyses
  • Foster a positive environment for lab techs and analysts, allowing opportunities for growth and development
  • Maintain organized records of sample preparation and analysis and equipment maintenance
  • Communicate with client program managers regarding clients’ questions or concerns
  • Initiate and address non-conformance issues
  • Oversee projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
  • Comply with McKinney Specialty Labs’ Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Ensure staff comply with McKinney Specialty Labs’ Health and Safety Plan
  • Review of customer data to ensure its compliance with McKinney Specialty Labs’ QMS, reference methods, and the customer’s requirements
