Description

The Chief Data Officer (CDO) is a critical leader, responsible for driving the organization’s data strategy, governance, and analytics initiatives to; (i) support the operational needs of the entire organization; (ii) accelerate breakthroughs in cancer research and clinical care: and (iii) support innovation and commercialization efforts in support of Moffitt’s strategic plan. The CDO will oversee the entire data lifecycle, ensuring data quality, security, and ethical use of patient data while leveraging advanced analytics and AI/ML to uncover insights that drive new discoveries and improve patient care. This position is responsible for enterprise-wide data architecture, quality, access, and integration, with a Shared Services or Enterprise Services orientation. At Moffitt, data is a shared resource across the enterprise, structured to ensure efficient and seamless utilization by all stakeholders. The CDO serves as a strategic Thought Leader, guiding optimal data use for clinical, research, and commercialization.

Minimum Experience Required

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data management, data science, or a related field, with substantial leadership and administrative experience – ideally within a healthcare or research setting (preferably in oncology).
  • Proven experience developing and implementing successful data strategies, data governance frameworks, and data quality programs.
  • Expertise in data architecture, data warehousing, and working with complex administrative information systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in advanced analytics with extensive partnerships with machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) applications, ideally in areas relevant to cancer research and clinical care (e.g., predictive modeling, imaging analytics; clinical trial matching).
  • Experience navigating and ensuring compliance with relevant data privacy regulations, including HIPAA, GDPR, and ethical guidelines that govern research data.

Education Level: Master’s Degree. Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a related discipline
Preferred Education: Ph.D. Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a related discipline

Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required

  • Strong leadership, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills to effectively lead team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep data analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to assess complex data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Strong understanding of research design and data management practices in the context of both research operations.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of data ethics and ensuring responsible use of data in research.
  • Ability to work ethically and with integrity, maintain confidentiality and protect patient data.
  • A passion for advancing cancer research and improving patient outcomes through data-driven approaches.
  • A collaborative and innovative mindset, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • A strong commitment to building a diverse and inclusive team culture.
