I. BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for overseeing the development, management and provision of primary oral services and education within the agency.

VI. QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine required.
  2. License to practice medicine in the State of Missouri and be in good standing.
  3. Drug license and Medicaid provider enrollment number required.
  4. Work experience in urban community health setting preferred.

Responsibilities

III. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops and/or implements strategies and systems that align and support dental services department with mission, vision, values and strategic objectives of FCHC. Communicates organizational objectives with dental department to ensure such alignment.
  2. Responsible for ensuring dental department productivity goals are met and works collaboratively with supporting departments contributing to this success.
  3. Collaborates with external partners to develop programs and initiatives that align with FCHC mission and expands FCHC dental offerings.
  4. Works with Associate Dental Director(s) and Dental Program Manager to address patient complaints and review clinical policies and procedures.
  5. Provides comprehensive dental care including examination, diagnosis, treatment, patient counseling, referral, and follow up to FCHC patients.
  6. Provides telephone consultation to clients and families as necessary.
  7. Maintains appropriate policies, protocols, records, reports and statistical data relevant to services provided.
  8. Contributes to the quality and maintenance of onsite clinical support services such as sterilization laboratory, emergency kit, specialty referrals, as well as, for the arrangements pertaining to outside clinical support services such as specialty referrals.
  9. Consults with staff members regarding the oral health care needs of individual clients.
  10. Participates in Center’s system of after-hours coverage and arranges for provision of emergency services.
  11. Works cooperatively with management staff to integrate prevention dental services with Center programming.
  12. Participates in the development of in-service trainings and programs related to dental health issues.
  13. Accepts assignments and responsibilities regarding time schedules for patient care, committee work, quality improvement and other areas related to special competence.
  14. Participates with other department Chiefs and directors in short and/or long-term planning activities as well as in policy development/recommendations. policy recommendations.
  15. Participates in rotating call responsibilities with the Chief Executive Officer and other heads of departments
  16. Participates in on-site audits/reviews by external agencies such as Bureau of Primary Care, Joint Commission evaluations, and facilitates staff preparedness for such audits/reviews..
  17. Provides supervision, orientation, and evaluation of Dental Staff, as well as, hires, schedules assignments, and leave times for such staff.

IV. PERIODIC DUTIES:

  1. Contributes to Public Health activities as appropriate.
  2. Participates on Management Team and other committees as assigned.
  3. Represents the Center at meetings, conferences and committees as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.
