OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and capable Chief Development Officer. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) serves as the key fundraising strategist and chief gift officer, responsible for driving philanthropic growth through innovative donor engagement strategies.. As a single-person development team, this position leads major gift solicitations, coordinates with Foundation board members, develops relationships with physicians for grateful patient fundraising, and manages the donor CRM system. The CDO ensures attainment of annual fundraising goals through disciplined focus on donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Healthcare Philanthropy: Deep understanding of fundraising in a healthcare setting, especially grateful patient programs and HIPAA-compliant donor engagement. Proven record of accomplishment in nonprofit fundraising and grateful patient programs.
• Fundraising Strategies: Knowledge of major gifts, planned giving, annual campaigns, capital campaigns, and donor stewardship best practice.
• Donor Management Systems: Familiarity with donor databased and data-driven fundraising.
• Nonprofit Governance: Understanding of board elections, nonprofit compliance, and financial stewardship.
• Marketing and Communications: Knowledge of branding, storytelling, and donor communications to inspire giving.
• Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate trust with donors, physicians, board members, and staff.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and proposal writing. Experience with grant writing preferred.
• Project Management: Skilled in managing multiple initiatives, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certification (CFRE) preferred
Preferred Experience: 7+ years of successful experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in a healthcare or medical environment.

• Strategic Leadership
• Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the Foundation’s mission and goals.
• Collaborate with physician and administrative team at Goodman Campbell to integrate philanthropy into the patient experience.
• Major Gift Fundraising:
• Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major gift prospects, including individuals, foundations, and other potential partners.
• Conduct at least 10 substantive donor/prospect visits per month.
• Achieve or exceed annual fundraising targets as established by Foundation leadership).
• Board Engagement and Development:
• Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Foundation Board, providing clear strategies, training, and updates on fundraising initiatives.
• Engage Board members in donor identification and peer screening activities.
• Strengthen Board involvement in cultivation and solicitation efforts to increase pipeline activity.
• Grateful Patient and Physician Relationships:
• Partner with physicians and clinical staff to identify grateful patient prospects.
• Provide basic training and guidance to physicians, ensuring appropriate and respectful patient engagement.
• Develop and maintain a streamlined referral process to track and follow up with grateful patient leads.
• Donor CRM Management and Reporting
• Oversee donor database integrity and accuracy, ensuring complete and up-to-date donor records.
• Generate prospect reports, progress summaries, and analytical dashboards to measure fundraising effectiveness.
• Utilize CRM data to guide solicitation strategies, stewardship activities, and forecasting of future gifts.
• Donor Stewardship and Communications:
• Implement personalized stewardship plans for major donors, ensuring timely and meaningful recognition.
• Prepare donor correspondence, gift proposals, and related materials.
• Collaborate with marketing or external vendors for donor newsletters, annual reports, and event communications.
