DEPARTMENT: Engineering/Maintenance
REPORTS TO: General Manager
STATUS: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Engineer is a key member of the hotel leadership team, responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and exceptional upkeep of all property systems, guest rooms, and amenities. This hands-on role combines strategic oversight with daily operations management and team leadership to deliver superior guest experiences. The ideal candidate will lead by example, foster a culture of service excellence, and inspire the Engineering team to uphold AC Hotel Bentonville’s high standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership and people management skills with a commitment to service excellence.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
  • Solid understanding of building codes, safety standards, and preventive maintenance best practices.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets, controlling expenses, and negotiating with vendors.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, with a guest-first mindset.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure or emergency situations.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering/maintenance experience in the hospitality industry, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Trade certifications and licenses preferred (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of the Engineering Department, including daily operations, preventive maintenance, and capital improvement projects.
  • Direct, train, and develop a team of Engineers, promoting continuous learning, safety awareness, and professional growth.
  • Oversee and maintain all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and life safety systems, ensuring optimal performance and guest comfort.
  • Establish and execute preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager and other department heads to align engineering operations with hotel goals and brand standards.
  • Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests and ensure timely resolution with minimal disruption.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA standards and fire/life safety codes.
  • Manage vendor relationships, maintenance contracts, and purchasing of parts and supplies within budget guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports for inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor utility consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives to support sustainability goals.
  • Foster a culture of proactive problem-solving and teamwork within the Engineering Department.
  • Serve as a leader during emergency situations, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Perform inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to identify and correct potential issues before they affect guests.
