WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

• Valid 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate, *will consider 3rd Class candidates in pursuit of 2nd class, but MUST present highly relevant power engineering and leadership experience
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to drive a vehicle
• 7+ years of relevant experience in a plant operation environment (production, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental compliance, people management and administration) or similar industry with preference for candidates experienced in and comfortable with heavy industrial environments
• Strong leadership skills, ability to garner rapport & trust from direct rapports (many tenured employees, this facility boasts low turnover, and a tightly knit team)
• High regard for safety
• Mechanical aptitude, degree of comfort overseeing/performing mechanical maintenance
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

• Operate and maintain all steam plant equipment, ensuring boilers and pressure systems comply with ABSA and company standards
• Oversee day to day activities of the steam plant, ensure daily operating plans are communicated and executed (including maintenance work order process) for the steam plant, wastewater, air compression, fire suppression, and air pollution departments, including wash stations and plant steam lines
• Manage and schedule steam plant shift operators, effectively allocating resources and personnel according to business needs
• Provide necessary documentation and schedule safety testing and maintenance
• Assess and recommend for improvement to equipment and processes
• Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving solutions for the general repair of systems and equipment to achieve production objectives
• Play a key role in recruitment, new hire selection, and employee performance management of steam engineers and operators
• Liaise between the steam plant, site management, procurement and maintenance, plant chemical supplier technical representatives, insurance providers and the City of Calgary
• Lead and/or participate toolbox meetings, and in the daily, weekly, and long -term planning efforts for the department, contributing to ongoing continuous improvement and adherence with safety regulations/industry standards
• Maintain maintenance equipment and department technical training materials
• Ensure odor control systems are operating within parameters established by Alberta Environment
• Act as a beacon of technical guidance for reports, providing mentorship, coaching, and training to best support the team and department
