The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall engineering and maintenance operations of our dual-property complex at Calgary Airport North. As a key leader, you will manage a dedicated Engineering team, safeguard the hotel’s assets, drive sustainability initiatives, and uphold Hilton Brand Standards — all in support of delivering exceptional guest experiences. At Hampton Inn, we call it Hamptonality. At Homewood Suites, it’s Be At Home. Either way, our goal is the same: to make every stay warm, welcoming, and worry-free.

GUEST & TEAM EXPERIENCE

  • Partner with Housekeeping, Front Office, and Food & Beverage to quickly resolve guest-impacting maintenance issues.
  • Coach and mentor team members, fostering a culture of accountability, service, and safety.
  • Demonstrate Hamptonality and Be At Home values by supporting colleagues and creating a positive work environment.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary technical training an asset.
  • 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate preferred (5th Class considered with strong experience).
  • Journeyman certification in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, or Mechanical trade (Alberta-certified).
  • Pool Operator Certification preferred.
  • First Aid certification preferred.
  • Class 4 Driver’s License considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering/maintenance leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a hotel or high-rise facility.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, BAS (Building Automation Systems), and life safety systems.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and MS Office programs.
  • Proven ability to manage regulatory compliance, inspections, and external contractors.
  • Budgeting, vendor management, and project leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with Hilton brand standards is an asset.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Hands-on leader with strong technical expertise in property maintenance.
  • Agility and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and emergencies.
  • Strong ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, managers, ownership, vendors, contractors, and inspectors.
  • Highly safety-conscious and committed to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, results-oriented, and able to work well under pressure.
  • Available to respond promptly in case of emergency.
