Job Details Job Location: B Ocean Resort - Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316 Position Type: Full Time Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 Salary/year Job Category: Hospitality - Hotel The Chief Engineer leads all property engineering and maintenance operations—owning asset integrity, safety, and preventive maintenance across guestrooms, public areas, amenities, and back-of-house. You’ll build and coach a high-performing team, manage CapEx and vendors, and ensure systems run safely, efficiently, and reliably to elevate the guest experience and protect the asset. Key Responsibilities Operations & Preventive Maintenance Plan and oversee PM for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, elevators, pools/spas, laundry, kitchen, roofs, and building envelope. Ensure timely response/closure of work orders; minimize rooms/out-of-order through root-cause fixes and follow-up inspections. Maintain accurate asset inventories, as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranty records. Life Safety, Compliance & Risk Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ADA, NFPA, health & fire codes, and brand standards. Lead life-safety programs (fire alarm/sprinkler, emergency lighting, generator); conduct drills and keep logs current. Administer safety programs (LOTO, PPE, SDS, hot work permits) and incident investigations. Team Leadership Recruit, schedule, and develop engineers/techs; set SOPs and craftsmanship standards; conduct performance reviews and skills training. Lead daily huddles and on-call rotations; model guest-friendly, solution-oriented communication. CapEx, Projects & Vendors Develop multi-year CapEx plans; scope, bid, and manage projects (rooms refresh, MEP replacements, energy upgrades) to budget, quality, and timeline. Oversee contractors; verify permits, insurance, safety compliance, and closeout documentation. Energy, Sustainability & Utilities Monitor utilities; optimize set points and controls to reduce consumption and costs. Maintain water management (e.g., Legionella mitigation), storm readiness, seasonal shutdown/start-ups. Budgeting, Inventory & Procurement Own R&M and utilities budgets; approve invoices and control parts inventory. Negotiate service contracts and vendor SLAs; track performance and cost savings. Systems, Reporting & Technology Administer CMMS/Work Order system (e.g., HotSOS/Quore); maintain PM calendars and KPIs (PM completion, OOO rooms, response times). Manage BMS/controls where applicable; partner with IT on system integrations and uptime. Cross-Department Collaboration Coordinate with Housekeeping/Front Office on room readiness and service recovery. Qualifications 5–7+ years in building or hotel/resort engineering with 2+ years in a lead/supervisory role (Chief/Assistant Chief/Engineering Manager). Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry/paint, and general building systems; ability to read schematics/blueprints. Proven experience with code compliance, life-safety, and pool/spa operations. Proficient with CMMS and BMS/controls; Microsoft 365/Google Workspace. Certifications (preferred): EPA 608 Universal, CPO, OSHA 30; trade licenses a plus. Excellent leadership, organization, vendor management, and communication skills; calm under pressure. Valid driver’s license; ability to work flexible hours and participate in on-call rotation. Physical Requirements Stand/walk for extended periods; climb ladders; access roofs/mechanical spaces and confined areas. Lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs; frequent bending, kneeling, reaching; work in hot/cold environments. Safely operate hand/power tools and equipment with required PPE.
