Description
Responsibilities

Here at Stagecoach West, we operate over 440 vehicles from 9 depot with workshops, and 4 outstations, across Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Swindon & Bristol. As Chief Engineer you will cover Oxford (including the famous Oxford Tube), Witney & Banbury.

This isn’t a desk job, it’s about being out and about, engaging with your teams to lead and develop them, in maintaining our vehicles, property, plant and equipment, and to support our extensive network of bus services in the region. This is a critical role within the company and some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting our safety culture and driving those key values and behaviours
  • Leading the deployment of our decarbonisation strategy
  • Setting and delivering high standards of vehicle reliability and presentation
  • Developing your depot engineering teams, so they have the knowledge and skills to deliver those reliability and presentation standards
  • Working alongside the Chief Engineer for Gloucestershire, Wiltshire & Bristol to ensure consistency of standards across our company
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders, such as Trade Unions and Local Authority public transport teams
  • Engaging your team to embrace automation and modern engineering practices that will supplement our business objectives and improve efficiency.
  • Always ensuring that we are complying with the law and appropriate regulations.
  • Ensuring great day to day communication between the commercial and operational teams and the rest of the company functions

You will have experience of running large scale engineering departments, ideally in a vehicle/plant multisite environment. Finally, what better place to live and work than beautiful Oxfordshire. This role is based in Oxford, but you can live in surrounding areas.
If you feel you have the passion, drive and skills required, then we would love to hear from you. Applications close on 1st September 2025.
Stagecoach is proudly an inclusive employer, striving for a culture where everyone can be themselves and where all the differences people bring are truly appreciated. We welcome applications from all, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs, disability, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, or age.
