POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCCPC will be entrusted with the strategic and operational leadership of the Coalition. Reporting to the Steering Committee and working closely with the Steering Committee Chair and Vice Chair, the CEO will lead the mission of NCCPC by providing direction, vision, and guidance to ensure the Coalition’s continued impact and growth through its three key pillars: Policy, Partnerships, and Practice.
The next CEO will be a strategic generalist, energized by the challenge of scaling impact, fostering collaborative solutions and implementing actionable initiatives and programs. The right candidate will be a master partnership builder and collaborator; able to represent the coalition’s work to stakeholders across government, industry, education, and aligned organizations. They will have demonstrated executive nonprofit leadership experience as a servant leader. They will have a proven track record in securing funding. Their ability to provide operational and financial leadership is essential, along with the resourcefulness to effectively develop and lead a lean, remote team.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Seasoned executive leader with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in nonprofit leadership; demonstrated oversight of an organization that has successfully leveraged its mission and scaled regionally or nationally
  • 10+ years of experience facilitating and organizing committees and network building for equity
  • 10+ years of fundraising and brand development experience, ideally including grant writing
  • 1+ years of policy advocacy or implementation experience, ideally with local or state legislation in CA
  • Dedicated to the mission of fostering post-secondary success among low-income, historically-disadvantaged populations. A background in a combination of college access, college success, workforce development, education policy, and financial aid that demonstrates a deep knowledge of what it takes to build and expand innovative programming
  • Proven track record of building high caliber teams, both internally and externally
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to respond to the shifting dynamics of the nonprofit and political landscapes; willingness and ability to work with ambiguity; ability to self-start and self-monitor progress
  • Well-networked within the Bay Area, with strong connections to civic, business, and philanthropic communities. Proven track record developing relationships and building collaborations
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time - locally within the Bay Area, statewide across California, and nationally across the United States
  • An unwavering commitment to personal and professional ethics and integrity. Personal qualities of intellectual curiosity, passion, idealism, positivity, humor and self-direction.
  • Commitment to a personal and professional exploration of power and privilege, including a willingness to self-reflect and experience discomfort in difficult and transformative conversations, previous progress along this journey required.
  • NCCPC staff should live in the Bay Area or be willing to travel at their own expense for in-person meetings. NCCPC does not employ staff who live outside of the State of California.
  • Minimum 2-year postsecondary degree required
