JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable to Health Quality Alberta’s Board and provides leadership to Health Quality Alberta. The CEO works closely with the Board to set strategic direction, develop strategic and business plans, and implement strategic/business goals, to allow Health Quality Alberta to fulfill its mandate to promote and improve patient safety, person-centred care, and health service quality across Alberta.
The CEO develops and maintains strong relationships and partnerships with senior officials in the provincial health ministries, Alberta Health Services, the health professions, academia, the public, and other key stakeholders in the health system, provincially and nationally, to promote and advance the work of Health Quality Alberta.
In conjunction with Health Quality Alberta’s Board Chair, the CEO communicates with the Minister and/or the Deputy Minister, to ensure that the Ministry mandates are completed in a timely manner, to proactively recommend the study of pertinent health issues, and to oversee nimble processes to design, deliver and continuously enable excellence in healthcare, enhancing the responsiveness, impact and reach of Health Quality Alberta’s work.
The CEO provides leadership to support Health Quality Alberta in becoming a leading authority in healthcare quality and performance. Drawing on provincial, national and international initiatives, Health Quality Alberta will utilize evidence-based strategies that accelerate healthcare improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A preference for a medical degree or a degree in a health professions field, or similar.
  • If applicable, the successful candidate must be licensed or eligible to become licensed in Alberta.
  • Post-graduate degrees, such as M.Sc., MBA, PhD, etc. would be an asset.
  • Extensive experience leading business operations including human resources, financial, and legal functions.
  • Affiliation with a university faculty and/or research institute would be an asset.
  • Recent clinical and research experience.
  • Extensive experience managing diverse teams.
  • Extensive experience working with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Extensive experience in the health system; experience in healthcare quality and patient safety is a valued asset.
  • Knowledge of the current transformation of the Alberta healthcare system is a strong asset.
