SUMMARY

We are seeking a visionary Chief Executive Officer to lead Welcome House of Northern Kentucky in our mission to eradicate homelessness. This role, based in Northern Kentucky, is pivotal in shaping our strategic direction and enhancing our service delivery to create lasting change in the community.

EDUCATION:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Service, Business Administration or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree – Social Work (MSW), Nonprofit Management, Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:

  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible nonprofit leadership experience, including:

oStrategic planning and execution

oSupervising senior/management teams

  • 3+ years in an executive role (CEO, Executive Director, COO, or VP-level)

Preferred:

Proven experience with:

  • HUD grants and other government-funded housing programs
  • Affordable housing development or supportive housing models
  • Managing compliance and reporting for federal/state grants
  • Leading organizations serving vulnerable populations (e.g., unhoused, low-income, mental health or substance use populations)

SKILLS/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

o HUD Funding & Regulatory Compliance

  • Experience with ESG, CoC, or other HUD programs
  • Familiarity with HMIS (Homeless Management Information Systems)

o Fund Development

  • Grant writing (especially for public funding)
  • Major donor cultivation and nonprofit fundraising

o Community Relations

  • Relationship-building with local government, funders, and stakeholders
  • Advocacy and public speaking

o Program Oversight

  • Evidence-based service models for homelessness
  • Program evaluation and outcomes measurement

o Financial Acumen

  • Budget development and fiscal oversight
  • Understanding of nonprofit accounting and audits

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies that advance the agency’s mission.
  • Collaborate with the Board and staff to create and execute organizational and financial plans.
  • Stay informed on trends in homelessness, housing, and poverty to guide future initiatives.
  • Oversee agency-owned properties, ensuring maintenance, occupancy, and improvement.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for Welcome House.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, community leaders, and policymakers.
  • Represent the agency on advisory boards and in public forums to influence policy and funding.
  • Promote the agency’s mission and services through strategic marketing and outreach.

Organizational Management

  • Lead and support a high-performing executive team.
  • Ensure effective recruitment, training, and retention of staff.
  • Foster a diverse, inclusive, and motivating workplace culture.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Board Relations

  • Serve as the liaison between the Board and staff.
  • Keep the Board informed of key developments and trends.
  • Support Board development and governance.

Financial Oversight & Fundraising

  • Collaborate with the Finance Committee to develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Ensure adherence to fiscal policies and accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing and donor cultivation.
  • Oversee legal and contractual obligations in partnership with Board officers.
