JOB DESCRIPTION: CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO) – WASTE MANAGEMENT COMPANY WITH OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Position Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Reports To: CEO/Executive Team
Department: Finance
Position Type: Full-time, Executive Level
Position Overview: The role will be for a semi- government company. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, planning, and strategy of the company while ensuring the company’s growth, profitability, and sustainability. This role will also focus on the alignment of financial and operational objectives to ensure efficient operations and cost-effectiveness in line with corporate goals. The CFO will work closely with other executive leaders, operational teams, and external stakeholders to implement and support business strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Candidate should be a Chartered Accountant.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, ACCA or related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the waste management or industrial services sector.
- Demonstrated experience with both financial and operational leadership in a growth-oriented company.
- Strong understanding of cost management, capital planning, budgeting, and financial reporting within a complex, operationally intensive business.
- Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams and engage with operational leaders to optimize both financial and operational performance.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a focus on team development.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and ERP systems.
- Knowledge of waste management regulations, environmental compliance, and sustainability practices a plus.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial data in an understandable way to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
- Financial Strategy & Leadership:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives and operational goals.
- Lead the finance team in forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Oversee capital structure, debt management, and investment planning to ensure long-term financial health.
- Manage risk, compliance, and financial governance within the waste management industry.
- Operational Efficiency & Performance:
- Collaborate with operations teams to analyze and optimize cost structures, resource utilization, and operational performance.
- Provide financial oversight to operational processes to ensure profitability and efficiency across waste collection, disposal, recycling, and other operational areas.
- Work with the operations team to streamline waste management processes, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and increased efficiency.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annual) to senior management and stakeholders.
- Analyze key financial and operational performance metrics, providing actionable insights to improve both financial outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Prepare financial reports for board meetings, investor presentations, and regulatory filings.
- Capital Management & Growth:
- Oversee capital budgeting and investment analysis, ensuring funds are allocated efficiently to support both operational growth and sustainability initiatives.
- Lead financial due diligence for acquisitions, mergers, or partnerships in the waste management space.
- Explore and assess potential financing options (debt, equity, etc.) to fuel strategic growth and innovation.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, waste management industry standards, and environmental policies.
- Work with legal and compliance teams to maintain corporate governance and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Maintain financial controls and audit processes to ensure accuracy and integrity in all reporting.
- Team Development & Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Work cross-functionally with leadership teams to build effective processes and ensure alignment between financial and operational objectives.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with external financial partners, investors, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
- Present financial performance and forecasts to investors, stakeholders, and board members.
