Description
Shape the utilities market of the future with us! Full Time / Erfurt, Leipzig, Ilmenau, Hybrid Germany Build the Financial Backbone of a Global Energy Software Platform Cuculus develops the digital infrastructure that utilities rely on to operate modern energy systems. Our platform ZONOS connects millions of smart meters, sensors, and devices worldwide and enables utilities to collect, analyze, and control energy data in real time. As Chief Financial Officer, you will be a key sparring partner for the executive management team and take full responsibility for the financial performance, transparency, and strategic financial direction of Cuculus. We are looking for a financial leader who enjoys building structures, improving steering mechanisms, creating transparency, and using modern technologies — including AI — to make finance faster, smarter, and more scalable. What is the role about? You will lead the financial backbone of Cuculus and ensure that the company can grow with discipline, clarity, and strong economic control. It is your role to turn business ambition into financial transparency. You will work closely with the CEO and executive management team to shape financial strategy, guide decision-making, manage liquidity and funding, and build scalable structures across accounting, controlling, legal, and financial operations. Your mission is to make financial steering a real business advantage. Success in this role means that leadership decisions become faster, better informed, and more economically grounded. You will create the financial systems, processes, and insights that allow Cuculus to scale internationally with stronger transparency, better profitability, and greater strategic confidence. This includes improving how we plan, measure, analyze, and steer the business — from customer project economics to product investments, from liquidity planning to investor reporting, from legal structures to scalable finance operations. We are always looking for support in the following areas: Your Mission & Impact Your Role at a Glance Strategic Financial Planning: Develop and oversee the long-term financial strategy to support our global expansion goals. Reporting & Controlling: Drive high-quality financial reporting for the management board, shareholders, and investors. Business Steering & Profitability: Establish and continuously improve financial steering across product lifecycles, customer projects and support services. Capital Markets & Funding: Manage liquidity planning, lead future funding rounds, and maintain strong relationships with banks and investors. Process Optimization: Professionalize internal structures in Accounting, Controlling, and Legal to ensure full scalability for a growing Software business. Risk Management: Identify financial and operational risks and implement robust mitigation strategies. Leadership: Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and high performance. Required skills and qualifications Preferred skills and qualifications Your profile Analytical, Hands-on & Visionary You see yourself not just as a "numbers person", but as a business partner who sets the economic course for sustainable success. Experience: Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role, such as CFO, VP Finance, Head of Finance, or Director Finance, ideally within a tech, SaaS, enterprise software, or B2B platform environment. Expertise: Strong expertise in financial reporting, HGB and ideally IFRS, controlling, liquidity planning, investment controlling, and financing processes. Executive Sparring Partner: A strong business-partner mindset and the ability to translate financial data into clear recommendations Tech-Forward Approach: You view technology as a core enabler and are proactive in leveraging AI to enhance financial steering and efficiency, staying ahead of the curve to future-proof the finance function. Mindset: A hands-on mentality combined with strategic foresight. You are comfortable building structures where they are missing and improving processes that are no longer scalable. Communication: Fluency in English and German is essential for this role given our international operations and local presence. What You Bring to the Team Why us? This role offers the opportunity to shape the financial foundation of a global software company working on one of the most important transformations of our time: the digitalization of energy infrastructure. You will not simply manage finance as a back-office function. You will build the financial operating model that helps Cuculus scale with clarity, discipline, and ambition. Sounds interesting?
