Senior Executive
SEnergy is a growing electrical engineering and consulting firm with offices in the Texas Hill Country, College Station, and Houston.
We are seeking an analytical, process oriented leader to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong financial background with a love for solving problems, strategic planning, and creating systems for our Finance and Administration teams.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • Possess strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills and able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
  • 10+ years financial leadership experience.
  • Direct experience in either Commercial Construction, Engineering or General Contracting.
  • Deep understanding of ASC 606 for Revenue Recognition for Fixed Fee projects using Percent Complete for revenue recognition.
  • Hands on experience in managing WIP schedules, Budgeted Vs Actual performance and financial impact of changes in Jobs Estimates To Complete.

SKILLS:

  • Strong (effective) written and verbal communication skills, exceptional computer skills, project management, spreadsheet, and word processing applications.

Responsibilities

The principal duties and responsibilities of the CFO of SEnergy are detailed as follows:

Financial Strategy and Leadership

  • Develop Financial Strategy: Formulate and implement a comprehensive financial strategy aligned with the company’s goals for consulting engineering, energy consulting, and EPC construction services, including revenue growth, cost optimization, and market expansion.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead annual budgeting, multi-year financial planning, and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with project pipelines, client contracts, and operational needs. Manage capital requests in alignment with the budget.
  • Capital Management: Oversee capital structure, including debt financing, equity investments, and cash flow management, to fund engineering projects, construction contracts, and innovation initiatives. Manage financial relationships including: Banks, Leasing Companies, Bonding Companies, Insurance Agencies and the financial impact of Healthcare & Retirement Benefit providers
  • Profitability Analysis: Monitor and enhance profitability across consulting services and EPC projects, analyzing project margins, overhead costs, and resource utilization.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, including project cost overruns, currency fluctuations, and regulatory compliance, in collaboration with legal and operational teams. Conduct SWOT analysis and develop performance measures that support Company’s strategic direction.
  • Investor and Stakeholder Relations: Serve as the primary financial spokesperson for investors, lenders, and board members, presenting financial performance, strategic plans, and growth opportunities.

Financial Operations and Compliance

  • Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting in accordance with GAAP or other relevant standards, tailored to engineering and construction industry requirements.
  • Audit Oversight: Manage internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and industry-specific standards (e.g., ASC 606 for revenue recognition on long-term contracts).
  • Cost Control: Implement cost control measures including WIP schedules for consulting engagements and EPC projects, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses for a combination of contract revenue methodologies including fixed fee, T&E, and subscription.
  • Contract Financial Management: Review and approve financial terms of client contracts, ensuring favorable payment terms, milestone-based invoicing, and risk mitigation for fixed-price or cost-plus projects. Manage contract workflows and execution including legal review.
  • Tax Strategy: Develop and execute tax planning strategies to optimize tax liabilities, leveraging incentives for engineering innovation, construction, and sustainability initiatives.

Executive Oversight - Information Technology (IT) and Innovation

  • Strategic IT Alignment: Oversee the IT Director to ensure IT infrastructure supports financial systems, project management, and client deliverables in consulting and EPC operations.
  • Cybersecurity: Ensure IT implements robust cybersecurity measures to protect financial data, project plans, and intellectual property, mitigating risks in a digital environment.
  • System Integration: Oversee IT’s integration of financial systems (e.g., ERP, accounting software) with project management and BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools used in EPC projects.
  • Performance Metrics: Set KPIs for IT, such as system uptime, project data accessibility, and cybersecurity incident response time, to support financial and operational goals.

Innovation:

  • SEnergy desires to be the innovative leader in our engineering and consulting practices by leveraging technology through AI and Automation to increase our ability to focus on high value services rather than repetitive activities. To that end, the Innovation effort is outlined as follows:
  • Digital Transformation: Guide IT in adopting technologies that enhance financial efficiency and workflow through our Deltek ERP system such as automated invoicing and purchase orders, real-time cost tracking, and data analytics, and expanding these workflows and innovations to our engineering and consulting practices for design automations, reporting automations, and data optimization.
  • Innovation Strategy: Oversee the Technology Innovation Lead to drive adoption of cutting-edge technologies (e.g., AI, IoT, etc.) that enhance consulting and EPC competitiveness.
  • Market Differentiation: Guide the Technology Innovation team in developing proprietary solutions that strengthen the company’s market position in consulting and construction.
  • Collaboration: Ensure Technology Innovation aligns with IT, HR, and project teams to integrate new tools into workflows and train staff effectively.

Executive Oversight - Facilities and Fleet Management

  • Facility/Fleet Operations: Oversee the Facilities/Fleet Manager to ensure efficient management of office spaces and company fleet.
  • Budget Oversight: Approve budgets for facility and fleet maintenance, utilities, and capital improvements, ensuring cost efficiency and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Space Utilization: Guide Facilities Management in optimizing space for consulting teams, and equipment storage, supporting our Company mission for exceptional project delivery.
  • Risk Management: Ensure Facilities Management addresses safety, compliance, and insurance requirements for all properties, minimizing financial liabilities.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish KPIs for Facilities Management, such as cost per square foot, downtime due to maintenance, and compliance audit results.

Executive Oversight – Human Resources (HR)

  • Payroll: Oversee the Payroll functions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Benefits Administration: Complete oversight of all benefits administration including design and oversight of benefit programs in conjunction with the COO and CEO.
  • Employee Incentives/Programs: Oversee employee programs and make recommendations for enhancement for employee engagement.
  • Organizational Policy and Compliance: Ensure policy align with employment laws and regulations at local, state and federal levels. Ensure the policies and procedures create a structured and fair workplace and policies are being followed.
  • Performance Reviews: Oversight of the administration of annual performance reviews.
  • Recruiting: Oversight of strategy and performance related to overall Company recruitment goals that vary from year to year.

Other responsibilities:

  • Coach, train and develop team, including providing conflict resolution, for entire divisional team to meet the specific Client outcomes required.
