Chief Financial Officer (Position Posting – August 2025)
The South Indian River Water Control District (District) is seeking a financial professional with governmental (non-profit) experience to serve as Chief Financial Officer (CFO ). This is a highly responsible, full-time, salaried, exempt position located in west Jupiter, Florida and is anticipated to begin work in October 2025.
The CFO is a key member of the District’s leadership team, reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the District Treasurer and Office Administrator. The position is responsible for ensuring fiscal integrity, delivering accurate and timely financial information, safeguarding public funds through effective internal controls, and managing all aspects of the District’s financial operations. This role will also provide direct support to the Board of Supervisors through financial reporting, governmental fund budget planning, and policy implementation.
This newly created position has been created to improve efficiency, reduce reliance on outside consultants, implement cost-savings measures, and serve as part of the District’s succession planning process.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in governmental or nonprofit accounting, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Knowledge of the nuances of local government within Palm Beach County is a plus.
  • Active Government Finance Officer Certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fund accounting, public finance administration, and government budget principles.
  • Understanding of special districts and non-ad valorem assessment processes.
  • Experience with payroll, accounts receivable/payable, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, prepare reports, and recommend policy or procedural improvements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified public accountant (CPA ), Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO ), Certified Public Finance Officers (CPFO ) or advanced degree in Finance/Accounting.
  • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting® software.
  • Experience with debt financing tools such as loans or bond sales.
  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes relating to special districts and public finance.
  • Supervisory and leadership experience.
