This executive leadership role is central to building a strong, transparent, and self-sustaining financial future for the Nation. As the most senior financial officer, the CFO provides strategic leadership in fiscal governance, capital planning, investment strategy, and financial risk management ensuring the Nation’s financial systems and structures uphold Sḵwx̱wú7mesh values and advance long-term community prosperity. As CFO, you will guide the strategic financial direction of a rapidly growing government and economic portfolio, overseeing financial strategy, treasury, investment, risk, reporting, and modernization. Your work directly contributes to Nation-building, economic self-determination, and the protection of intergenerational wealth. WHAT YOU’LL DO * Lead the strategic financial direction and operations of the Squamish Nation Government. * Develop and implement long-term financial strategies aligned with the Nation’s Generational and Strategic Plans. * Advise Council, the Executive Director, and senior leadership on financial sustainability, investment opportunities, and risk exposure. * Oversee capital and infrastructure financing strategies for projects exceeding $1B in value. * Negotiate financing arrangements with governments, lenders, investors, and development entities. * Manage treasury, reserve, and debt strategies while ensuring long-term financial health and liquidity. * Provide financial oversight for Nation-owned entities, ensuring alignment with community priorities and governance values. * Ensure compliance with the Financial Administration Law, audit standards, and funding conditions. * Modernize financial systems and implement strong internal controls, risk frameworks, and transparent reporting processes. * Lead annual and multi-year budgeting, financial forecasting, and performance reporting across departments. * Build and mentor a high-performing finance team that exemplifies excellence, accountability, and collaboration. * Represent the Nation in financial negotiations and partnerships with credibility, diplomacy, and integrity. * Support financial education and literacy across the organization and community. * Champion financial stewardship that balances growth with cultural responsibility and Nation values. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR * Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing. * Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field; MBA, MPA, or related graduate degree is an asset. * Progressive senior financial leadership within government, public sector, large Indigenous government, or corporate settings. * Proven experience as CFO, VP Finance, or Executive Director of Finance overseeing large-scale capital financing and complex budgets. * Strong background in treasury, reserve management, debt structuring, and financial risk oversight. * Experience advising Council, Board, or Executive Governance bodies. * Demonstrated success leading finance teams and developing cross-departmental collaboration. * Familiarity with Indigenous governance, community-driven priorities, and economic development frameworks is a strong asset. * Advanced knowledge of ERP, FP&A, or digital financial systems; experience with financial modernization or transformation is preferred. * Strategic thinker with exceptional communication and diplomacy. * Deep integrity, emotional intelligence, and political acumen. * Ability to lead through transformation and complex financial environments. * Cultural awareness and deep respect for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw values, language, and traditions.
