Job Title: Director of Finance
Department: General & Administrative
Reports to: General Manager/Chief Operating Officer
Classification: Department Manager/Exempt

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Finance preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum of five years’ experience as a hospitality Controller or Director of Finance, preferably within an HOA community with Golf and F&B operations. Must have strong accounting, budgeting, and administrative experience. Previous supervisory experience required. Strong background in Club Essential software a plus.
Job Qualifications:
Knowledge and application of GAAP standards required. Strong computer skills required, including excel, word, outlook, and PowerPoint. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with property owners and staff required. Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting area including the supervision of the Senior Staff Accountant, Staff Accountant and Office Manager.
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and forecasts.
  • Compilation and presentation of financial information to the General Manager, Finance Committee, Board of Directors, Infrastructure Committee and HOA Members at Town Hall Meetings.
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
  • Oversee monthly reconciliation of sub-ledgers including receivables and payables to the general ledger and resolution of differences.
  • Oversee all balance sheet reconciliations, including bank accounts, asset and liability accounts, and ensure that reconciliations are performed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee member billing and collection procedures. Monitor collection of past due and liened accounts.
  • Maintain fixed assets ledger.
  • Review all vendor contracts and financial commitments of the HOA.
  • Interfaces with the banking community regarding short-term vs. long-term capital requirements, financing, investments, and negotiating loans as well as refinancing.
  • Manage and conduct internal auditing programs to assure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and procedures are satisfactorily and consistently followed.
  • Coordinate and work with annual outside Auditors.
  • Supervise preparation of applicable Federal, State and local tax returns.
  • Supervise and/or participate in and verify the taking of inventories in the F&B, Pro Shop, Tennis & Harbour operations.
  • Prepare operational and capital budgets in coordination with the General Manager and Department Managers, and present to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors for approval.
  • Prepare Capital Project budgets, forecasts, etc.
  • Monitor budgeted versus actual expenditures and revenue. Advise the General Manager and Finance Committee about variances and their causes.
  • Prepare financial forecasts in coordination with the General Manager and Department Managers.
  • Ensure development and maintenance of effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements.

  • Work with Human Resources and be knowledgeable of payroll functions, including performing labor cost analysis.
  • Develop the Accounting staff, ensuring they reach their professional goals.
  • Actively participate in the business community, attend educational conferences (i.e. HFTP) and participate in local benchmarking sessions.
