Job description: The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is a critical executive leadership role responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the healthcare system. This role demands a seasoned, proven leader with 10 years of experience exclusively in a leadership capacity who can navigate the complex regulatory and operational landscape of a large healthcare organization with multiple unions. The CHRO will provide strategic leadership to all HR functions, with a non-negotiable emphasis on cultivating effective labor relations, negotiating multiple union contracts concurrently, and driving innovative, compliant HR practices. Key Responsibilities Labor & Employee Relations (Core Requirement) * Lead and execute all collective bargaining negotiations with multiple, diverse unions, developing comprehensive strategies that ensure operational flexibility and fiscal soundness. * Required Experience: Successfully managing and maintaining productive relationships across multiple bargaining units within a large, complex organization. * Direct the management and resolution of complex labor disputes, grievances, and arbitration proceedings. 2. Strategic HR Innovation and Compliance * Lead the innovation and modernization of HR policies and procedures to drive efficiency, enhance employee experience, and support organizational goals. * Ensure all HR policies and procedures are rigorously up-to-date and compliant with all federal, state, and local HR and employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, wage and hour laws). * Oversee compliance with all healthcare-specific regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA). 3. Leadership & Team Management * Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing HR team (minimum team size of 10 professionals), including functional leaders in Compensation, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, and Employee Relations. * Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive team on all organizational, cultural, and talent matters. 4. Talent Management & Organizational Development * Develop and oversee strategic workforce planning and talent acquisition programs tailored to the acute needs of clinical and non-clinical healthcare roles. * Champion organizational design and development initiatives to promote a culture of accountability, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Required Qualifications * Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree (MBA, MHR) is highly preferred. * Certification (Required): Current certification as either Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). * Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience, where the entire 10 years must be in an HR leadership role (e.g., Director, VP, or higher), preferably within a large, complex healthcare system. * Preference: Direct experience within a Hospital System is highly preferred, but candidates from large, multi-faceted healthcare organizations will be considered. * Labor Relations: Non-negotiable, documented experience leading contract negotiations and managing ongoing relationships with multiple unions concurrently. * Team Leadership: Proven experience managing and developing an HR team of 10 or more professionals at various functional levels.
