Francis Marion University and the Campus Technology Department invite applications for a Chief Information Officer who is responsible for directing a division that provides the following academic and administrative services for the University: Campus Applications and Data Services; Network Operations & Systems; Instructional Technology and Desktop Support; and Telecommunications.

Responsibilities
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, service, and teamwork across University departments by demonstrating strong leadership, empathy, and respect.
  • Exert oversight of the University’s ERP system to enhance the University’s operational efficiency including maintenance, procurement planning, and end-user support and training.
  • Introduce innovative and emerging technologies to support the University’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Provide faculty and staff training on system updates, security, and best practices for student services.
  • Coordinate with faculty and University administrators to provide instructional and research needs.
  • Ensure adequate technical and personnel support for major campus events.
  • Direct the university’s cybersecurity strategy, ensuring protection of digital assets and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives, supporting assessment processes and aligning departmental goals with university objectives.
  • Partner with the Rogers Library to advance data accessibility and integration across campus.
  • Work closely with the Purchasing Department to manage equipment inventory and ensure timely, compliant procurement of technology goods and services for university operations.
  • Will oversee equipment stocking and related vendor relations, including outsourced service providers.
    FMU preferences: Master’s degree in business administration, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or management information systems. History of management, training, and supervisory roles involving technology. Extensive knowledge of contemporary computing platforms and networking devices.
    State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in communications, business administration, computer science (information technology), mathematics, statistics; management information science or a related field and experience in telecommunications, data processing and/or information technology.
    The successful candidate will report to the directly to the Vice President for Administration and Planning.

    Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
    Normal Working Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Summer hours will vary. Evenings and weekends may be necessary, sometimes with little advanced notice.
