Primary objective
To lead a dynamic team of geographically dispersed staff and contracted international representatives in driving the strategic
growth of the Northern Territory as a premier tourism destination through innovative and effective marketing and
distribution programs.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate global marketing and distribution initiatives that proactively respond to
economic conditions, trends, and social changes impacting the tourism industry. Ensure accountability for achieving
outcomes aligned with government priorities and policy platforms.
2. Provide visionary leadership to the marketing team, effectively utilising resources to create and deliver marketing
strategies that position the Northern Territory as the destination of choice for leisure travellers.
3. Establish and maintain strong partnerships with industry stakeholders, tourism operators, government entities, and
agency colleagues to achieve strategic and operational objectives collaboratively.
4. Represent Tourism NT at inter-jurisdictional forums, relevant committees, and industry events, advocating for positive
outcomes for the Territory and promoting key messages that enhance its competitive position as a tourism destination.
5. Prepare correspondence, briefings, and reports for government, the NT Tourism Board, and the department’s Board of
Management, ensuring clear and effective communication of strategic insights.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience in the creative conception, development, and successful execution of integrated marketing
campaigns, with a strong focus on leveraging evolving technologies to enhance distribution and conversion outcomes.
2. Strong conceptual and analytical abilities with a track record of interpreting and responding effectively to a changing
operating environment.
3. A capable leader who can formulate and articulate strategic ideas at a senior level while fostering collaboration across
diverse teams and cultures.
4. Ability to focus on strategic goals and priorities while ensuring the optimal use of financial and human resources in line
with professional management principles.
5. A self-motivated, entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to achieving feasible outcomes.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and well-developed written and oral communication abilities, including
public speaking.
Desirable
1. Understanding of the economic, social, political, and cultural opportunities and challenges affecting tourism in the
Territory, along with the diverse interests and aspirations of various stakeholders
2. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
