Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- The Chief Mechanical Engineering Technician: Backhoe Dredger will be responsible for ensuring engine room, excavator and all technical installations associated with the plant are working in a (cost) efficient manner.
- The Chief Mechanical Engineering Technician also ensures repair and planned maintenance activities are performed in an optimal and safe manner, according to existing manufacturers’ guidelines and Company asset maintenance programs.
- The position’s responsibilities include safeguarding the environment for fellow workmates in the engine room and dredge generally in compliance with the Company’s in-house safety principles, procedures and behaviours programs. The position also entails:
- Maintenance, modification and repair of hydraulic power systems of 4000kW capacities,
- Maintaining inventories of spare parts and fuel and guaranteeing stock levels at agreed levels administered with Company’s internal maintenance systems.
- Certifying all modifications and repairs are completed within contract provisions, specifications and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensuring timely and clear communication within the Engineering team, Project team and Company management.
- Guaranteeing the maintenance of engine room logs, administration of data and documentation in accordance with Plant Management Systems requirements.
- Maintenance of (technical) records, drawings and reports and ensuring compliance with all company document control procedures and local legislation.
TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, YOU WILL HAVE THE BELOW MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 6 years’ previous experience working within the dredging industry in a senior engineering capacity, with at least 3 years’ experience working on large Backhoe Dredgers.
- Vocational education, preferably with qualifications pertinent to Heavy Industry mechanical engineering relevant to large excavator operations, PLC and hydraulics.
- Extensive knowledge of and relevant experience with, crane monitoring, fleet management and maintenance systems.
- Extensive knowledge and relevant experience of plant / heavy equipment IT applications, classification and regulatory requirements.
- Relevant certificates for marine safety and fire fighting training
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with dredging techniques and working methods.
