Description

Closing Date: 15 Sep 2025
Allevia Health, formerly known as Healthcare Holdings Limited, is one of the largest private healthcare groups in New Zealand and has 27 operating entities including Allevia Hospitals, one of the country’s largest private surgical facilities providing comprehensive surgical services from its three Auckland sites.
At Allevia Health our Integrated Care strategy is delivered through curated Health Journeys providing coordinated, patient-centred pathways. We focus on bringing together the services of multiple providers to provide end to end, multi-disciplinary and streamlined care, resulting in a better health journey for all patients. Central to who we are and what we are trying to be, our integrated approach benefits not just patients but all our stakeholders, in particular the specialists we work with, the clinicians who refer patients to us and to our valued staff.
About the role: We invite applications for the role of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This is a unique role with a twofold focus – to lead the clinical vision and standards across Allevia Health and Allevia Hospitals, and to drive innovation by delivering our vision of a more effective model of patient-centred care in New Zealand, building pathways to deliver integrated, high quality care that is both timely and centred around the patient’s needs.
Reporting jointly to the Managing Director of Allevia Health and the CEO of Allevia Hospitals, the CMO oversees clinical governance for the group, and fosters partnerships between specialists, clinicians, and stakeholders to deliver excellent patient outcomes.
This is a permanent position working at least 4 (flexible) days per week, and we are open to the successful candidate retaining a clinical practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Clinical Innovation
  • Operational Efficiency & Cost Management
  • Clinical Leadership and Governance

About you: You are a medical practitioner with current relevant specialist registration (in NZ or Australia), significant clinical leadership experience and a proven track record in clinical governance, quality assurance, advancing integrated and value-based care models, and incident management.
Ideally you will have a tertiary level qualification in a health service management related field to bring commercial acumen and the ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions.
As an exceptional relationship builder and influential communicator your success in this role will be evidenced by your ability to inspire clinical teams and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation. As a dedicated healthcare professional you are committed to keeping abreast of the latest research and international standards for best practice, which will ensure clinical excellence across Allevia Health and Allevia Hospitals.
Benefits: Salary and incentives are negotiable and will be discussed with shortlisted candidates, benefits include 5 weeks annual leave, subsidised health insurance, free parking, and annual close down period over the festive season.
