Position Overview The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, responsible for defining and advancing Wellvana’s clinical vision, strategy, and programs. The CMO provides clinical leadership across the enterprise, oversees Medical Directors, and ensures Wellvana’s provider partners have the tools, data, and guidance to deliver exceptional outcomes in a value-based care environment. The ideal candidate is a mission-driven, innovative, and collaborative physician leader with deep expertise in population health, clinical transformation, and provider engagement. Strategic Leadership Define and implement Wellvana’s clinical vision, standards of care, and quality framework. Partner with executive leadership to integrate clinical priorities into organizational strategy and operations. Advise the CEO and Board on clinical quality, innovation, and performance. Collaborate with Medical Economics to develop data-driven insights and value-based solutions for providers. Clinical Excellence & Quality Oversee all clinical programs, quality initiatives, and value-based care strategies. Monitor, measure, and enhance clinical outcomes through evidence-based and data-driven practices. Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and risk management requirements. Provide executive oversight of key clinical functions, including: Quality & Safety Utilization Review Value-Based Care Program Development Peer Review & Credentialing Managed Care & Strategic Growth Provider Engagement & Development Foster trusted relationships with physicians, health systems, and payors. Inspire providers to adopt data-driven strategies to improve quality and manage medical costs. Mentor and develop emerging physician leaders across the network. Lead continuing medical education (CME), leadership development, and clinical training initiatives. Operational Collaboration Partner cross-functionally with operations, analytics, and network teams to align clinical and business goals. Support development and scaling of care models and best practices across the Wellvana network. Represent Wellvana’s clinical perspective in regulatory, legislative, and partnership discussions. Advocacy & External Relations Serve as a clinical advocate for patients, providers, and staff. Partners with government relations teams and regulators, including on Capitol Hill, as needed. Monitor trends in healthcare delivery and health policy; advise leadership accordingly. Collaborate with partner clinical leaders to identify and share best practices across the network. Requirements Education Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required. Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) strongly preferred. Certifications Board Certified, preferably in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. Experience Minimum 10 years of clinical practice experience. Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in value-based care, population health, or clinical transformation. Proven success driving clinical strategy, quality improvement, and physician engagement in complex organizations. Experience with payors, independent practices, and multi-facility health systems preferred. Practicing clinical experience within the past 10 years strongly preferred
