Compensation: $20,000

  • Professional services of $20,000 per annum for approximately 16 hours of service/month, payments will be made in 12 equal monthly installments.
  • Budget for work related travel expenses and professional development.

Commitment: ½ day per week.

  • An average of ½ day per week (4hrs) - Approximately 16 hours of service/month
  • We recognize that this time will vary depending upon the week and month, for example there are no MAC or department meetings in July or August (and most of December), we expect the time commitment to be less, offsetting higher demands the rest of the year

We currently have an opportunity for a Chief of Emergency Department (ED). We are seeking a Chief of ED whose leadership is aligned with our Mission, Vision and Values of providing first class care.
The Chief of Emergency Department will work with the Chief of Staff (COS) and the CEO, helping manage and execute strategic projects, overseeing day-to-to-today medical operations, facilitating communication for the Emergency Department. This is a critical role that combines strategic thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Medicine.
  • License to practice in the province of Ontario
  • Member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience as a hospital Emergency Physician.
  • Certification in Emergency Medicine C.C.F.P. (E.M.) preferred
  • Previous experience working effectively within collective decision-making structures. i.e. a board or committee.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the focus on teamwork, objectivity and conflict resolution.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities.
  • A commitment to ongoing medical education, leadership development, and staying current with advances in medical practice and healthcare management.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Execution: Support the COS and CEO in setting and driving departmental goals and initiatives. Assist in the development and execution of high-priority projects within the Emergency Department.
Operational Efficiency: Oversee key operational functions, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and deadlines. Identify opportunities for process improvement and drive efficiency across the department.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between external and internal partners, especially medical departments, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration to achieve the department’s objectives.
Leadership & Team Alignment: Provides leadership and creates a positive and supportive work culture for professional staff, staff, volunteers, patients and caregivers within the Emergency Department.
Quality and Patient Care: Contributes to the Patient Relations process, including reviewing complaints, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary, and identifying situations.
Staff and Resource Management: Assist in the development of comprehensive medical human resources plans aligned with the department’s operational and strategic plans.
