The Role Our client is seeking a highly driven and operationally focused Chief Operating Officer (COO) to support the business during a critical stage of growth and development. Reporting directly to the Founder, the selected candidate will play a central role in building and scaling the company’s operational infrastructure, ensuring the business operates efficiently while supporting future expansion plans. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys building processes from scratch, and can effectively balance strategic thinking with day-to-day execution. The COO will work across multiple business areas including operations, finance, compliance readiness, people management, and business support functions, while also acting as a trusted partner to the Founder. Key Responsibilities Building the Operational Foundation Design and implement scalable operational processes, systems, and controls. Establish internal workflows, governance structures, and documentation standards. Identify operational inefficiencies and proactively implement solutions. Supporting the Founder & Leadership Work closely with the Founder to translate business vision into structured operational plans. Prepare operational reports, strategic updates, and board-level documentation. Manage cross-functional priorities and support company-wide execution. Cross-Functional Leadership Support operational activities across finance, people operations, compliance readiness, and business development. Manage external suppliers, service providers, and key business relationships. Adapt quickly to evolving business requirements within a startup environment. Financial Services & Compliance Focus Apply financial services industry knowledge to maintain high operational standards. Support future regulatory readiness initiatives, including potential licensing preparation. Promote a compliance-conscious and risk-aware operational culture. Team & Culture Development Contribute to building a high-performance company culture based on accountability and ownership. Support recruitment, onboarding, and team development initiatives. Foster collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Requirements Essential Minimum 3–4 years of experience within a financial institution such as banking, payments, insurance, investment services, or similar environments. Experience presenting to or engaging with senior leadership, boards, or investors. Strong organisational and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail. Experience operating in fast-paced or resource-constrained environments. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. Self-motivated mindset with strong ownership and problem-solving capabilities. Desirable Previous startup or scale-up experience, ideally within fintech or financial services. Familiarity with MFSA or broader EU financial services regulatory frameworks. Exposure across multiple business functions including operations, finance, compliance, HR, or legal. Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Key Competencies Strong operational and process-building mindset.
