Key Accountabilities Play a key thought leadership role. The Chief Strategy Officer will provide thought leadership and counsel to the senior leadership team on major strategic issues, trends, and options. This includes engaging and seeking input from the Executive Committee throughout the year on all matters of strategy planning and development. In addition, he/she will engage with the Board of Directors in strategy educational sessions and in opportunities to provide input in strategic thinking underway. The Chief Strategy Officer will be responsible for developing the company’s annual strategic plan and facilitate all matters related to hosting the Board at the annual strategy Board session. They will develop and manage an ongoing global strategic planning framework that provides guidance to and engages the Executive Committee and key business units in ongoing strategic dialogues and activities. Working with the business and group functions, this individual will develop, help execute and track the progress of differentiated strategy and priority initiatives. Contribute insights and information to support strategy development and vetting. This individual will oversee the continual build out of the Enterprise Intelligence Unit that develops insight and implications for decision making based on ongoing analyses of the company’s key competitors. Assist in corporate development and M&A. The mandate of this individual includes working closely with Corporate Development to develop the proactive M&A playbook within the context of the divisional strategies. In coordination with this group, and on an as needed basis, the incumbent will perform business development/M&A due diligence, valuation and business integration analysis for potential acquisitions. Provide Team Leadership. The successful candidate will manage and motivate a lean, high-performing team that can realize its individual and group potential. He/she will actively build, mentor, and develop talent, ensuring that they deliver against business demands and are considered partners to the business. This individual must motivate team members to produce to the optimum of their abilities and provide them with rewarding career paths. Building cross-functional relationships and providing leadership to issue resolution, where persuasive skills, negotiation skills, and considerable tact are required to gain support. Conflicts will be resolved in an effective and productive manner. Maintaining positive relationships with key customers and partners and interfacing regularly with senior executives. Qualifications/ Competencies and Experience Minimum of 15 years of strategy experience, either with a top-tier consulting firm or through a combination of strategy consulting and corporate strategy experience. Previous business or operational roles is a plus. Demonstrated experience in strategy development and execution. Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and tactics in collaboration with external (e.g., consultants) and internal partners (e.g., Business Units). Exposure and experience in such areas as strategy planning, agile, waterfall, project management principles, lean/six sigma, and change management. Experience in the financial services industry A high degree of business acumen in the financial services sector. Experience in the insurance industry is ideal. Global leadership experience Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to operating globally with multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to build a leading-edge team that drives new-age thinking. Exceptional communications judgement and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior management and board. Experience leading a large-scale transformation change initiative including the development and execution of a large-scale transformation strategic plan. Strong Project Portfolio Management Skills, including the ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time and under tight deadlines, operating in a cross-functional environment. Demonstrated success at senior cross-functional project delivery involving cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and business functions. Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver actionable recommendations based on analysis.
