EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineer, or a related field is required.
Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Ten (10) plus years’ experience in Healthcare Information Technology is required.

Responsibilities

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO), is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects at Virginia Hospital Center Arlington Health System and its subsidiaries (collectively, “VHC Health") . The position is responsible for the long-range direction of an organization’s technology function as well as managing day-to-day operations of the entire server, email, storage, security, and disaster recovery environment. The Chief Technology Officer is responsible for identifying and implementing various technology solutions within the Health System, and for maintaining and ensuring high availability of the existing infrastructure and systems as well as directing the activities necessary to keep the technology infrastructure running seamlessly, efficiently, and effectively while ensuring compliance with established Health System standards and policies.
The CTO manages the Information Technology Department, part of the Information Services Division, including Engineering, System Operations, Data Centers Networks and Telecommunications. The CTO manages external technology vendors and relationships, and establishes the policies and structures for managing the underlying IT infrastructure. The CTO reports to the SVP / CIDO and is accountable for delivering the required IT solutions In support of the health system strategic plan to the various Health System Departments and Users, and for ensuring that all IT assets and systems are functioning smoothly, are available a very high percentage of the time, are reliable, and are fully supported with internal and external resources.
The ability to stimulate team work, and manage technical engineers on a daily basis rounds out this position. A positive attitude, mentorship, personnel management, budgeting, is critical of this position. The incumbent provides technical leadership and direction for the automation and improvement of overall operations. Directs the strategic design, acquisition, management, and implementation of an enterprise-wide technology infrastructure in support of administrative clinical, and business systems. Maintains technology standards for the organization taking all vendor requirements into account. The CTO works with Executive Management to grow the company through the use of technological resources, developing a cost-effective infrastructure to support future initiative such as Telemedicine. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
