QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience in a senior technical leadership role managing a team.Proven experience as a WordPress developer, with both front-end and back-end capabilities.
• Strong understanding of website architecture, coding (PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and plugin customization.
• Familiarity with SEO, Google Ads, and digital marketing integration.
• Experience in website security, privacy standards, and compliance requirements.
• Ability to manage and mentor volunteer teams with empathy and accountability.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a volunteer Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide leadership and hands-on technical expertise as we grow our platform. This role will be both strategic and hands-on to get the work done, balancing high-level vision with direct technical contribution. All direct reports in this role are volunteers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT & DESIGNServe as a WordPress developer capable of handling urgent design or development needs as a stopgap.
• Make coding and design edits to enhance site functionality and user experience.

• CONTENT OPERATIONS OVERSIGHTOversee the Upload Team responsible for publishing journalism and editorial content to the site.

• Ensure content workflows are efficient and maintain quality standards.

• SEO & ADVERTISINGOptimize the platform for search engines and effective Google Ad usage.

• Monitor and advise on best practices to maximize reach and engagement.

• TECHNOLOGY SECURITY, PRIVACY & COMPLIANCEOversee the security and privacy of the site and all internal technology systems.

• Partner with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and her team to ensure cybersecurity best practices.

• Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to ensure the platform meets all legal, ethical, and compliance requirements.
• STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP SUPPORTAdvise on the technical implementation of strategy and guidance from the CXO team.
