DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will undertake the responsibilities of a Youth Worker 1 as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual including but not limited to:

  • Actively intervene with, and moderate non-productive thinking styles and behaviours based on a cognitive-behavioural approach that includes modelling, problem solving and cognitive restructuring.
  • Undertaking and managing Primary Worker Duties for one or two clients.
  • Some office duties including brief recording and reporting, typing, filing and organizing for the following days activities.
  • Cooking, house clean-up, minor repairs and maintenance duties will be undertaken as part of each shift routine and on an as needed basis.
  • Preparing organized, comprehensive, daily logs, and necessary reports, meeting Ministry requirement timelines .
  • Accepting an active role in facilitating shift activities, planning and organizing group sessions, programming and conducting intake admission process.
  • Developing professional relationships with community partners
  • Other duties as chosen by or assigned to the employee which will assist in the effectiveness of programming.
  • Committing to participating in training opportunities and engaging in the active development and improvement of the program.
  • Development and implementation of program/treatment and management plans - goal setting, strategies for attainment of goals and promoting overall healthy living and success.
  • file maintenance ensuring compliance with Ministry regulations and guidelines

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Familiarity with the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the Child Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) the legal system, and residential treatment service delivery.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to work with young people, parents and guardians, and other community partners and resources.
  • Willingness to work rotating shift schedule, attend staff meetings, and engage in required orientation and training.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree or diploma in a related field from an accredited University or College.
  • Experience working with youth who are sexually abusive.
